Day 1: Foundations of a Successful Garden
Morning Session (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM):
- Planning Your Garden: Learn about garden design, understanding your space (urban, suburban, or rural), and choosing the right vegetables for your climate and conditions.
- Soil Basics: Understanding soil types, how to test and amend soil, and the role of composting and organic fertilizers.
- Seed Selection & Starting: How to select the best seeds for your garden, the pros and cons of heirloom vs. hybrid seeds, and starting seeds indoors vs. direct sowing.
Lunch Break (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM)
Afternoon Session (1:00 PM - 4:00 PM):
- Building Raised Beds & Containers: Learn to construct raised beds and use containers for small-space gardening.
- Watering Systems: How to install efficient irrigation systems, including drip irrigation and rainwater collection methods.
- Hands-On Activity: Participants will build and plant a small container garden or raised bed.
Day 2: Nurturing & Harvesting a Healthy Garden

- Plant Care & Maintenance: Fertilizing, mulching, and managing common garden pests organically.
- Seasonal Gardening: Learn about succession planting, crop rotation, and how to extend your growing season.

Lunch Break (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM)
Afternoon Session (1:00 PM - 4:00 PM):
- Harvesting & Storing Your Vegetables: Techniques for harvesting vegetables at their peak and tips for storing and preserving produce.
- Composting for a Sustainable Garden: Learn how to set up and maintain a compost system to create rich soil for future seasons.
- Hands-On Activity: Participants will practice harvesting techniques and learn to compost with kitchen scraps and garden waste.
Workshop Wrap-Up & Q&A (4:00 PM - 5:00 PM):
An open forum where participants can ask questions, share their thoughts, and discuss their garden plans. This session will also provide one-on-one time with instructors for personalized advice.
